Codfish Balls

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups shredded salt cod fish
- 1 1/2 cups hot water
- 2 cups hot mashed potatoes
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons minced onions
- 1/2 teaspoon allspice
- 1/2 cup flour
- oil or shortening (for frying)
- tomato sauce
- coleslaw
Recipe
- 1 soak the codfish in hot water for 3 mins.
- 2 drain and with hands squeeze as dry as possible.
- 3 (codfish will expand when wet, but after squeezing it packs back into about 1 1/2 cups.
- 4 in a bowl mix together the codfish and potatoes, butter, onion, and spice.
- 5 blend well.
- 6 with hands shape into 1 and 1/2 inch bowls.
- 7 roll balls in flour .
- 8 heat oil or shortening to temp of 375 degrees . fry for 1-2 mins or until balls are golden brown all over.
- 9 drain on paper towels and serve with tomato sauce and coleslaw.
